"The Iron Horse" is captured here in an original news service photograph. Measuring 7x9, the sepia-toned photo has a thin white border that serves as the frame for a likeness of Gehrig and teammate Blondy Ryan. Standing side by side in their Yankee pinstripes are Gehrig, who performed in his 1,600th consecutive game that afternoon, and Ryan, who played in his inaugural contest as a Yankee that day (Ryan had been purchased from the Philadelphia Phillies just two days prior). Adhered to the reverse, the original caption obscures a vintage "Associated Press Photo" stamping. There are scattered creases throughout and very minimal paper loss near the bottom right.
